Sowing Seeds of Change

Stiles Machinery Inc. is dedicated to helping businesses and individuals thrive through forward-thinking solutions that help foster growth. That’s why when Stiles learned about Archangel Ancient Tree Archive, it was an obvious partnership from the beginning. While the nature of the two companies’ work is vastly different, their missions are very similar.
Archangel Ancient Tree Archive (AATA) exists to reforest the world’s most important old growth trees, including California’s giant redwoods, which provide a myriad of benefits to the environment and humankind. As a proud supporter of this mission, Stiles Machinery has partnered with AATA to help give back to the world, one tree at a time.
Archangel’s mission can be divided into four foundational elements: propagate, reforest, archive and educate. To propagate is to multiply or increase, as by natural reproduction. This is the strategic method that AATA uses to repopulate old growth trees, by taking the DNA from living ancient trees and using it to grow new saplings.
Once the saplings have matured, they are then replanted in their natural habitat, creating living archives that can be used for future research and preservation. However, their mission doesn’t stop there. AATA believes that to sustain their goal, they must educate the world about the importance of preserving these life-giving giants for generations to come.
In the mini-documentary “Moving Giants,” David Milarch, co-founder of AATA explains, “We can fix the destruction. We can rebuild the old growth forests that we’ve lost. If we build a model and show the world what’s possible, and if we change our thinking to work with mother nature, I think our great-grandchildren and beyond will be grateful that we did.”
Each month, Stiles Machinery partners with AATA’s community education initiatives by sending team members to their headquarters where they have the opportunity to participate in hands-on plant growth and preservation training.
“Our monthly trips to Archangel Ancient Tree Archive have been extremely fulfilling. Not only are we learning about the importance of ancient tree propagation and reforestation, but our volunteers feel a deep sense of pride knowing that the work that we are doing today is going to have a positive impact on the world for years to come. These trips also serve as a great opportunity for employees from different departments to connect outside of the office environment.” says Christina Elsenbroek, AATA Program Coordinator for Stiles.
