Challenge
More than 30 years after John Castro founded Black Stone Construction in Colfax, North Carolina, the company faced a significant challenge: The scarcity of skilled local labor was limiting their ability to scale. The need for a more efficient, dependable, and automated construction process became evident.
Solution
In pursuit of a solution to increase production capacity, Castro turned to Stiles Machinery. Stiles recommended off-site construction methods with WEINMANN equipment, which led to Black Stone investing in a state-of-the-art WEINMANN production line for interior and exterior wall panels. Stiles engineered a custom U-shaped factory layout to accommodate Black Stone's space constraints and provided extensive pre- and post-installation support, including various training programs for machine operators.
Automated Production Line
Black Stone's new production line features the WEINMANN FRAMETEQ F-300 framing station, which, combined with its intuitive powerTouch interface and BUILDTEQ transportation tables, enables precision framing of wall panels. The WALLTEQ multi-function bridge, with its high-speed nailing and routing capabilities, completes the wall panels by attaching sheathing material and machining it for final assembly. This innovative custom line allows Black Stone to produce panels under any weather conditions and operate multiple shifts, drastically increasing output.
Training and Operational Support
The Stiles team played a pivotal role in ensuring a smooth transition for Black Stone's employees from traditional on-site construction methods to this new automated system. Comprehensive training and ongoing support have been crucial in enabling Black Stone to maximize the benefits of their WEINMANN equipment, leading to increased efficiency and higher-quality construction.
