Moulder Concepts and Operation

Moulding is an art traditionally reserved for the craftsperson, but demands for higher, more consistent production while preserving a quality, hand-crafted aesthetic are shaping the next generation of milling and solid wood processing.

This in-person course begins with an introduction to moulding terminology and safety before exploring proper equipment set-up, adjustment, and maintenance by detailing various automation components, spindle configurations, tooling, profiles, and processing units.

Significant time is devoted to understanding your material both pre- and post-processing. Efficient and effective troubleshooting is only possible with an understanding of wood properties such as lumber grades, warping, and moisture content. This knowledge helps to differentiate between natural wood flaws and correctable machine defects like chipping, burning, tear outs, chatter, and uneven knife marks.
