A perfect example of the unclear communications are “alerts” or “error codes” on manufacturing equipment. An error code does not necessarily mean there is an error, rather it could be a warning to help you avoid a potentially bigger issue. The quicker you can recognize and resolve the warning, the better off you will be at avoiding product reruns, costly repairs or extended machine down time.
Many machine error codes are straight forward and will prompt you through a sequence of maneuvers to fix the problem yourself. For example, if a tool changer plate did not rotate on a CNC router or a breaker overload in the electrical cabinet has tripped. More often than not, the warning message is not an intuitive message but rather a sequence of codes and numbers. A flashing code on one machine could mean something completely different on another machine, which can make quick fixes complicated. Unfortunately, most manufacturing machinery doesn’t come with a comprehensive “trouble shooting” section in the back of a manual similar to a car.
We Speak the Language
Due to the complexity of error codes and warning messages, your most efficient option for service is to call an expert. The Stiles Technical Support Center is staffed 24 hours a day with a team of technical support experts who have years of experience solving error codes and providing solutions on a wide variety of manufacturing machinery. Most of the computer controlled machines of today contain software allowing technicians to access them through the internet. This allows them to talk with the system to find the problem, then the corresponding solution, faster.
Track Your Own Codes
As you find solutions to error codes, create your own cheat sheet. Keep track of error codes and solutions in a log book, whether it’s a solution you found on your own, or something the Stiles Technical Support team helped deduce. Eventually, your log book will be a great reference and resource to maintaining the most efficient solutions on your own.

What to expect when you make the call.
- Machine Info: First, the technician will ask for the machine brand and model for reference.
- Error Message: It’s extremely important to provide the exact numbers and words displayed in the alert or error code.
- Solution: An error code list exists within every machine, but sometimes it takes a little research to find out what they mean. Once a possible solution is discovered, the technician will walk you through the procedures for a reset or resolution.
- Service Call: If none of this is successful, the next step is to send a service technician out to your location as soon as possible.
